The Linton Drive In opened in 1948. Sound was provided by two very large speakers on each side of the screen. In 1950 a tornado destroyed the screen and a new one was built. In 1952 the two large speakers were replaced with individual in the car speakers.
The drive In was operated for half a century by the same man and at the time of closing it was the oldest and longest running Drive In Theater in Indiana.

Comment: Wow!! This is just wonderful to have. I went to College Hill School grades 1 thru 6. Wonder if there is ever a College Hill reunion? I can not remember the (9)Southern Hotel or (5)Bowling Alley between Murphy's and Briggs Buick. Again, THANKS
Not knowing where the Southern Hotel was is a good thing...it didn't have the best of reputations. The Bowling Ally was upstairs across from Mullis's Barber shop near the Cozy Corner Tavern. Never heard of a College Hill Reunion but if we do we'll let you know
